What Should I Expect?
We get it… establishing care with a new doctor of any kind is a drag. There’s paperwork, finances and a new relationship to consider all while wondering, “Can these people really help me?”
We also know that you will receive the best care and the best results if we can help you feel at ease and fully informed through the process of getting better. This is why we have taken steps to make the process of becoming a new chiropractic patient as pain-free as possible.
We’re going to keep it simple and efficient so that you can get about the business of living your best life. You can read about the 5 simple steps to your first chiropractic visit right here.
We aren’t a drop-in clinic. To ensure that every patient gets the maximum level of care during their time here, we schedule appointments.
That time is yours.
Our friendly staff will help you to find a time that fits best with your schedule. We strive to see all new patients within 1-3 business days of their call since we know that you are calling because you need help NOW.
Fortunately for you, we don’t do the, “Doctor will see you in 3 months” thing that has become so common in healthcare.
2. Before Your Appointment
Nobody gets excited about paperwork.
However, it’s a requirement for high-quality, ethical care (the only type of care we offer at Body of Health). To make this as easy as possible, all of our paperwork is online and will be sent to you via email before your appointment to be completed prior to coming in for your visit. This allows you to take your time filling it out and it allows us to get you in as soon as possible when you arrive.
The most common questions people have about coming in for chiropractic care are about the cost. Most health insurance has chiropractic coverage that will help with part of the cost. We will help you find out what your chiropractic benefits are and discuss how they can be used. Not everybody understands deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, maximum benefits, and other insurance jargon. Our professional staff will help you to understand what all of this means so that you know what to expect.
If you don’t have health insurance coverage for chiropractic care, no problem. You can take advantage of our significant discounts (sometimes as high as 60%) we offer to patients who pay out of pocket or using a Health Saving Account on the day they come in for treatment. We charge a flat rate for these visits so that you can easily budget the cost of your care without surprises.
3. History & Examination
A medical history is a description of your current problem and key information about your health in the past. Often, we can get a really good idea of what you have going on just by hearing about your symptoms and the type of impact they are having on your life.
Every patient at Body of Health will have an interview with the doctor where we will discuss your health history and you will receive an appropriate examination before we give any treatment. This is because we follow the highest ethical standards of care.
From time-to-time, we will have somebody call and tell us that they just want to “be cracked” or that they know exactly where we need to push and just want a quick adjustment without the examination and history. Maybe, their “guy” has done this for them in the past. That’s fine, but it’s not how we operate. We never take a shot in the dark when it comes to your health and safety. If you want somebody who is more careless and willing to skip this essential part of quality health care, you are welcome to go somewhere else.
When we do a good history and physical examination it gives us the best chance of helping you to get better and stay better. It allows us to use our best clinical judgment, and make evidence-informed decisions based on your specific needs. Examinations are focused and based on the information you provide in your history. We only order imaging (like X-ray) or other diagnostic testing (like blood work) when your condition indicates this is necessary.
Once we have all of the information we need about your condition we can proceed to the fun part… treatment!
Before we administer any type of care, however, we will have a discussion about what you have going on and what we can do to help. We will go over the risks and potential rewards of any procedures we will be performing and inform you of any alternatives to our treatment. The doctor will also let you know about what you can expect as far as recovery and a timeline for getting better. Every patient is given the opportunity to ask questions and we only proceed if you give permission and are comfortable with the plan.
We have a variety of tools and techniques at our disposal to help you. Your treatment plan may include physiotherapies such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, heat/cold therapies, traction, instrument assisted soft tissue therapy, massage, etc. Most patients receive chiropractic adjustments/manipulation of the spine or extremity joints as needed. The doctor has many types of techniques to use for adjusting patients including manual adjusting by hand or using an adjusting tool. We also discuss strategies for activities of daily life and spend a good amount of time educating you about how to recover from your particular problem.
5. Home Instruction and Follow Up
Compared to how much time you spend outside of our clinic, we only have a little bit of time to work with you. You have work, family, school, sports and many other things to do. This is why we develop a customized plan for your recovery including home exercises and tips for avoiding problems in the future.
Also, a full recovery typically requires a consistent series of treatments to help you get better and stay better. We strive to get you to the point where you can manage your own problem as quickly as possible. For this reason, we won’t recommend more care than you need. It also means we won’t recommend less.

“Dr Young is a wonderful person, caring for your mental as much as your physical well-being.
Tamara (LMT) is one of my favorite people around here. Plain and simple.“
“I recently was in a motor vehicle accident and saw both Dr. Young for chiropractic treatments and Tamara for massage treatments. I was well cared for and received a thoughtful and thorough intake from both.
“Tamara’s intuition, ability to offer deep tissue and trigger point release, and easfeul transitions was very supportive in my healing process. The massage was above and beyond my expectations!“
“No nonsense chiropractor. I came here because I needed chiropractic care without the woo peddling. Dr Young is professional and courteous, and he will put a smile on your face.“
