Before we go any further with this post let's establish a basic premise: YOU DESERVE…
How Important is Spinal Alignment?
We recently purchased a new home in Corvallis, OR and part of the process of making it ours has included installing some new cabinets with counter tops. One thing that we discovered is that the floors in the room we are installing them in is not very level. It has made this project very challenging because the levelness of the floor impacts the alignment and levelness of the countertops. The funny thing is that before this installation we never really noticed that there was any uneven spots in the floor at all.
This is a great parallel to our health and specifically the structure of our body. The musculoskeletal system (muscles and bones) make up the framework for our bodies. The nervous system helps to determine the tone of these muscles which position and stabilize joints. All three of these elements working in harmony determine our posture and ability to function. When one of these aspects is out of alignment the other two are impacted. This is the same as how the quality of my floor affects the quality of my countertops. Like the floor of my house, sometimes the trouble spots can be difficult to identify until you want to do something important (isn’t that the way it always seems to go?).
As a chiropractor one of the important things I’m interested in is the alignment and function of the neuromusculoskeletal system (that’s nerves, muscles and bones). Spinal alignment has a critical impact on how the muscles and even the nerves of your body will function. If spinal alignment is off then other joints including hips, knees, feet shoulders, etc. will have to adapt to these challenges. This can create stress states that will create trouble over time. Usually these problems aren’t apparent immediately, but over time the alignment problems can introduce increased stress on a joint that you might want to use later for something other than compensating for poor posture or alignment.
Fortunately, the fix for poor spinal alignment is fairly simple. Chiropractic adjustments performed by a skilled chiropractor can make a big difference. I have been a chiropractic patient all of my life and I know the difference when I need to improve my spinal alignment and when my spinal alignment is good.
I know many of you have wondered at some time or another what role your posture or spinal alignment plays in your physical performance and musculoskeletal health. I recommend that you see a chiropractor right away to try to fix any underlying issues in your spinal alignment before you try to do something important and have to pay the consequences. If you are looking for a chiropractor in Corvallis I would love to be of service to you at Body of Health Chiropractic & Wellness Center. Even if we can’t help you or you aren’t in the area, I would love to provide a great referral to get you the help you need.
